Revelation: Faithful Resistance in a World of Powers
When most people think of the biblical book of Revelation, they picture beasts, battles, and the end of the world. But Revelation isn’t meant to frustrate or frighten us. It’s a word of hope and challenge for ordinary Christians trying to follow Jesus in the middle of real-world pressures. It pulls back the curtain on the systems of power and injustice that shape our lives, and it calls the church to live differently—together.
We’ll journey through this book that was first written to Christians who were learning how to stay faithful under the shadow of Empire. Just like them, we face our own cultural pressures—from consumerism and greed to racism, nationalism, militarism, and violence, and the pull to compromise our faith in Christ and our love for God and neighbor. Revelation names these powers and shows us how to resist as a community of disciples who walk in the way of Jesus.
But at the heart of Revelation is not fear but worship. The Lamb is on the throne, and that vision gives us courage. As we pray, worship, and encourage one another, and commit ourselves to love even our “enemies”, we are reminded that God’s victory is already breaking into the present. Hope is not just for the future—it sustains us now, shaping us into people who bear witness to God’s justice and love.
Whether you are new to faith or have been following Jesus for years, this series is an invitation: come and learn how to stand firm, resist what is unjust, and live with courage, love, and hope in Jesus Christ.
Together, we’ll discover what it means to follow the Lamb in the middle of everyday life.
