 FAQs

  • Our services typically run around 80-90 minutes.

  • Whatever you feel comfortable in! We keep it very informal, so casual attire is just fine. You might see a few bowties on Easter Sunday, but please come as you are.

  • The kiddos typically join us in service at the beginning for praise and worship. After that, the kids (ages 1-12) are invited to go to our RiverKids class which lasts until the end of service. Of course, they’re always welcome to stay in the service instead if they prefer!

  • To start, join us for worship on Sunday and fill out a connection card! Our pastor and Welcoming Team will then reach out for next steps, and you will be added to your weekly email newsletter to get updates on upcoming events. There will also be a link to join our Slack community board at the bottom of every newsletter.

  • Our COVID safety team keeps a close eye on the current case levels in the greater Boston area. If there’s a surge happening, we strongly recommend you wear a mask during service. When case levels are low, masks are optional. In either case, our welcome team has masks available for you if you want one.

  • Riverwalk Church is part of the East Coast Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. You can read more about what we believe and affirm on our Beliefs page.

  • Yes. We embrace all persons as beloved by Jesus and believe the story of Jesus is good news for everyone. We welcome all persons into the life of our church, including LGBTQ+ persons and their families, respecting their discernment of God’s calling towards wholeness and holiness in all parts of their lives, whether they are currently married, dating, or single, pursuing covenantal marriage, or committed to celibacy.

We do not believe anyone should feel forced or coerced into any use or non-use of their sexuality. We respect people who choose celibacy and will encourage them in their commitment. We also respect people who choose to date, partner, or marry, and we are committed to investing in their spiritual growth towards Christlikeness equally. We believe all have ways to contribute to, receive from, and hold influence in the spaces we foster, for this is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Because of our “third-way” approach, our community members and leaders may hold various theological views on human sexuality. We support prayerful and communal discernment on how to live this out in becoming more like Jesus, with love for God and neighbor. LGBTQ+ persons participate among us as members, volunteers, and leaders.

We embody a diversity of experiences and expressions on what it looks like to follow Jesus with all of who we are, including our sexuality.

With regard to marriage and human sexuality, the Covenant denominational position adopts the “traditional” ethic – “Faithfulness in heterosexual marriage, celibacy in singleness.” Therefore, according to policies for Covenant clery and Covenant churches, marriages are only performed between one man and one woman. Clergy are not permitted to officiate/preside at same-sex weddings. However, Covenant clergy may attend as a participant in the congregation.

Regardless of the spectrum of views represented within our congregation, we are all committed to learning to live and love like Jesus together. We affirm that God’s embrace comes without pre-conditions and is abundant and expansive, life-changing and lavish, boundary-crossing and barrier-breaking.

We are committed to making safe and brave space for one another and walking alongside all persons with love – across differences in race, ethnic or national origin, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, economic status, education, marital status, and stations in life – encouraging all to prayerfully and communally seek the wisdom of the scriptures and guidance of the Spirit in following Jesus.
